Breast Cancer & Pleural Mesothelioma?

It’s easy to assume breast cancer and pleural mesothelioma have nothing in common. Mesothelioma mainly impacts men and breast cancer is a disease that primarily affects women. They’re both types of cancer, but at first glance, that’s where the similarities end.

But, contrary to popular belief, they’re commonly confused and misdiagnosed within the medical profession.

Asbestos Can Also Cause Breast Cancer

There are no differences in mesothelioma among women regarding how the disease occurs. Exposure to asbestos is still the primary cause of the disease.

What a lot of people don’t know is that a variety of studies have demonstrated that women who live close to manufacturing plants using asbestos have a higher rate of breast cancer than those who don’t.

The relationship between asbestos and breast cancer is currently unclear, however.

You can find out more about pleural mesothelioma and asbestos at SurvivingMesothelioma.com.

Why Mesothelioma is Often Misdiagnosed as Breast Cancer

Its well-known mesothelioma is one of the most difficult diseases to diagnose early. The problem with mesothelioma in women is it shares many similarities with breast cancer. An incorrect diagnosis can be an effective death sentence.

Mesothelioma is so aggressive that if it isn’t diagnosed early, your life expectancy drops by years. That’s why the majority of mesothelioma sufferers live for mere months after their official diagnosis.

There is also a range of common symptoms. For example, chest pains are shared by both breast cancer and mesothelioma.
